Alto Vista Chapel
The Chapel of Alto Vista was the first Catholic church established anywhere in the Caribbean. Also called the Pilgrim’s church, it was constructed by Spanish missionaries in 1750 and reconstructed in 1953. Reach the small yellow chapel by way of a winding road lined with white crosses marking the Stations of the Cross.
Natural Bridge
There are several natural bridges on Aruba that were formed by waves carving them in limestone. Nearby is a natural water spout. When water enters the opening just right, it shoots straight up, creating a fountain of spray.
Bushiribana Ruins
Along Aruba’s northern coast at Bushiribana are the ruins of the abandoned gold smelter that once processed ore from mines in the nearby hills during Aruba’s gold rush of the nineteenth century. In 1824, gold was finally discovered in Aruba, and eventually the industry produced more than three million pounds of gold.
Natural Pool
Rock and volcanic stone circle around a small depression creating a tranquil pool known as the Natural Pool. The pool is on the windward coast surrounded by some of Aruba’s most rugged terrain, and is accessible only by foot, horseback or 4x4 vehicle.
Fontein Cave
There are several shallow cave formations along the island’s windward coast. The Fontein Cave is the most popular of the caves, as it is the only one that has Arawak Indian drawings on the ceilings.
